Monica Velasquez

Monica Velasquez

Monica is a fun-loving little girl who loves to dance, listen to music, and spend time with her four cousins.

Monica has Bilateral Retinoblastoma, a cancer found in the eyes. She was diagnosed shortly after birth. The cancer has left her with very little vision, despite making a recovery after a year of chemotherapy treatments. Monica has had a couple of relapses, followed by rounds of treatment, but she continues to fight and stay positive.

A Message of Hope Cancer Fund has helped the Velasquez family cover some of the financial burden as Monica endures expensive medical treatment, allowing her recovery to be the biggest priority.

In addition to the already burdensome costs of treating cancer, when a child or family member is critically ill, one parent may have to leave his or her job to care for them. This makes it difficult for families to cover expenses they previously did not have difficulty with, such as utility bills, rent or mortgage payments, rising gas costs, and other everyday expenses. MHCF offers families assistance with some of these costs.
