Arielle Gaies

Arielle was a bright young girl who most enjoyed shopping and spending time with her friends. She loved reading mystery books and was inspired to become a forensic scientist.

In November 2009, Arielle was diagnosed with Colorectal Carcinoma and a pancreatic mass. She quickly began intense chemotherapy and radiation treatments, as well as surgery to remove the mass. In the middle of this tough battle, Arielle was able to attend the Homecoming dance at her high school—a huge highlight during this tough time. Arielle lost her battle with cancer shortly after, at 16 years old.

Arielle’s mother worked when she wasn’t caring for her daughter or taking her to and from treatment. With no other assistance, the financial load became heavy. A Message of Hope Cancer Fund helped provide support in the latter stages of Arielle’s cancer. Arielle is dearly missed.

In addition to the already burdensome costs of treating cancer, when a child or family member is critically ill, one parent may have to leave his or her job to care for them. This makes it difficult for families to cover expenses they previously did not have difficulty with, such as utility bills, rent or mortgage payments, rising gas costs, and other everyday expenses. MHCF offers families assistance with some of these costs.
